Italians Undo Inter at S.Siro
12-May-2018
Inter-Sassuolo 1-2
Sassuolo strike partnership of Politano and Berardi bagged a goal each to claim an impressive Inter scalp at the San Siro; severely damaging the home team’s chances of Champions League qualification. Berardi, who’s had a dismal campaign, played arguably his best game of the season and scored a wonderful solo goal; turning Skriniar inside-out on the edge of the box before smashing home into the top corner.
Politano’s opener was a peach in its own right, cheekily curling his free-kick under the wall. The goal takes Politano into double figures for a personal best return in which 70% of his tally has come in the last 9 games, after a quiet start to 2017/18.
In goal for the Neroverdi, Consigli played the game of his life with a handful of miracle saves. Of the other Italians, Acerbi was imperious in the backline and there was a good showing on behalf of Dell’Orco and Adjapong. D’Ambrosio, Ranocchia, Candreva, and Eder all featured for Inter with less than impressive displays consistent with that of the entire side.
Benevento-Genoa 1-0
Eighteen year old Enrico Brignola played very well in Benevento’s win for pure pride. Parigini and Cataldi were below-par, with both players struggling to live-up to their early promises.
Of Genoa’s Italian contingent, Giuseppe Rossi fared best beside an impressive outing for 16 year old Eddy Salcedo in only his second ever appearance. Bertolacci and Biraschi were ok, Izzo and Lapadula less so.
