So my friend and I might have gotten into a very long discussion about Turn after she finished season two, (I’ll admit it was a little one sided because I kept spewing history pundits and facts but any wayyysss...) and we came to a conclusion about the difference between Simcoe and Arnold.
So out theory basically boiled down to the fact that Simcoe’s actions are based on the idea of him doing what he believes is right, in a kind of convoluted way, like defending Anna when he thinks Abe has assaulted her, or taking down rebels because they challenge the authority of the crown. From his perspective, everything he’s doing is right, in a kind of messy weird way, like that scene with Anna at the inn when he he states that he’s “not a monster.”
Arnold’s entire behavior is basically dictated by what he personally belives he deserves. He think’s he’s entitled to Peggy’s affections and a promotion and he really deserves neither.
Whats really creepy about Arnold is that that idea of entitlement is soooo modern, men are like that today. Both men are pretty frighting but what makes Arnold so freaky is the fact that men like him really exist and are really threatening to girls.
