One thing I thought about at the concert is that maybe Brandon needs someone that looks like Jesus on stage with him.
I guess if you combined Benji and Jake they would be about Mark’s height, and that’s why he has two Jesuses on stage for TDE.
I wonder if he’ll do a Jesus look for the next era.
I'm pretty much out the loop with hip up and coming bands, especially anything under the indie rock umbrella. Quite frankly, I think Pitchfork can suck a dick. Too much frontin', not enough content. I mostly listen to dead people (so much less ego when you're dead!). I'm moved by content, deep and dark and beautiful. My tolerance for bullshit is jadedly low these days, all this indie-pop-folk ya ya that belongs on a Cheerios commercial really irks me deep in my soul (an inadvertent backhanded caricature of what real folk or even pop is capable of).
Some friends have been playing this "Father John Misty" recently and I realized my old friend and former guitarist/bandmate in NYC, the killer Benjy Lysaght, is in the band. Excited to see him after so many years and to check out this new music, I went to see the band this week at One Eyed Jacks. Have to say, there's some special shit happening in these tunes. I don't even know what, yet... but that's how the best music works. It's not a slap in the face, it's a sexy, slow and steady courtship.
Cheers to old friends and new ones. And how the universe just keeps expanding with things that move you forward and break open yer heart, mind and all else. Pretty sure it was the music, though maybe the tequila, strip clubs and beignets factored in. Here's to rolling with the night, the day, whatever the universe calls your way.
