🇮🇹 The Princess of Wales has arrived in Reggio Emilia.
The Princess will be welcomed to the city at the Piazza Camillo Prampolini, Reggio Emilia’s Town Hall.
HRH will be formally met by Mayor Marco Massari in the Piazza, who will introduce the Prefect of Reggio Emilia, Salvatore Angieri, before proceeding inside for discussions and official meetings with civic leaders.
Once inside, the Princess will join a discussion focusing on the historical, cultural and education circumstances that led to the development of the Reggio Emilia Approach, and the genuine city-wide commitment to prioritising early childhood.
HRH will be joined by some of the key figures who played a key role in shaping the Reggio philosophy — Carla Nironi, Iona Bartoli, and Eletta Bertani.
These women were all born around the beginning of the Second World War and helped shaped what is known as the Reggio Emilia philosophy we see today.
This moment will offer an opportunity for the Princess to ‘see first‑hand the strong civic engagement that underpins the city’s educational identity.’
Before departing, the Princess of Wales will visit the ‘Sala del Tricolore,’ which sits within the Town Hall, and is known as the birthplace of the modern Italian flag from 1797.
Today, the Sala Tricolore remains the seat of the City Council and of the city’s main institutional ceremonies.
The Princess is to be presented with the ‘Primo Tricolore,’ the city’s highest honour, in recognition of HRH’s early years work.
The ‘Primo Tricolore’ is awarded to ‘individuals or organisations whose work has had a significant civic, cultural, scientific or democratic impact, often at international level.’
Following the meeting and award presentation, the Princess will depart the Town Hall and proceed to the Piazza, where HRH will have an opportunity to greet members of the local community.
