Get up! Its a sunny day and we are going in the river! Morning slouching about in the hippo family looks like something out of a sitcom. You have one grown up trying to cheer everybody into seizing the day. And then you get all the rest of the family hating the mere thought of it. And the youngest are the worst. Hippopotamus (Hippopotamus amphibious), greek "river horse", is a social animal living in family groups of 10-30 animals. They are adapted to living most of the day in water to avoid getting dehydrated. The family groups contains several adult males and females, and their offspring. Only the dominant male have the right to mate with the females in the group. The hippo knows very well it is an apex animal. 200 meter up river from their place, a group of crocodiles was hanging out, but it did not seem to bother the hippos at all. Even if they are a potential threat to baby hippos, crocs and other predators stay away from the dangerous and agressive adult hippo. https://www.pbs.org/wnet/nature/blog/hippo-fact-sheet/# #hippo #hippopotamus #flodhest #2015CE #benoue #nationalpark #cameroon #kamerun #river #Villagelife #familylife #nikond800 #D800 #Nikon #Nikkor #300mm #f4 (ved Benoue National PARC) https://www.instagram.com/p/0P362Fj-ia/?utm_medium=tumblr
