This is a bittersweet post: XyloVan is out at the Maker Faire at Glendale Community College today until 5. Kristina and I are having a lovely time helping people play and learn about the principles of music and making. But this will probably probably be XyloVan’s last public appearance in this incarnation. The vehicle is no longer affordable for me to run - time- or money-wise, and after 9+ years of music, dust, sweat, tears and profound joy, it’s time to move on with everything I’ve learned to something better and, I hope, even more amazing. I’ll be offering the very solid base vehicle to the mutant vehicle community and likely shift the instruments to another platform in a year or two. Thanks so much to everyone who gave me encouragement and support (especially to my beloved family and build crews), and if you’re around Glendale today, come say hi and play with us. One of my favorite things about BEquinox is in sticking to the classic Burning Man experience moments of interaction and participation are encouraged. BEquinox, LA's Regional Burn was an amazing experience. When I first went to Burning Man in '98, there weren't really sound camps. Some individual camps played music, but it more felt like walking from one small but meaningful experience to the next. Each camp offered something uniquely quirky and fun, and instead of everyone thinking they had to find a club inside burning man for a party, they realized the party WAS Burning Man, and it was everywhere. I have to give huge credit to Topless Deb and Widget (the lead organizers), for seeing this and preserving this feeling in one of the closest experiences I've come to the original Burning Man culture I've experienced since first coming to the playa, and since seeing sound camps shift the expected playa experience. It was absolutely wonderful, and I'm excited to share pics from #BEquinox here for my upcoming posts. And this is the wonderful Gina, the Art Car from @hpgoescycling.
