The Bamburgh Beast

This design is from a teeny tiny gold plaque known as the "Bamburgh Beast" dating to the late 6th or 7th century, Bamburgh Northumberland.

I had never heard of the beast or Bamburgh at all before @ja-khajay suggested it. I had a blast reading about the castle and all the stuff they have there. Sadly i could not find any digital museum or database of them. I'm guessing they're housed at the castle.

this design to me looks like a loose gripping beast, but i might just be seing that bc i'm used to looking at scandinavian finds of amorphous animals with a "hand" here and there . I saw some people say they saw an elephant. I can kind of see it but somewhat doubt so heavily stylising such a foreign animal ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
