Penannular Brooch

from Høm in Denmark.

This style of animal/human like masks on penannular brooches is thought to be from the 900s and may have originated in the south-eastern part of Norway.

Trefoil Brooch C13929

Borre style trefoil brooch, found somewhere in Larvik, Norway.

Really couldn't get my head around what was going on in the leg area/tips of the brooch limbs.

Ornament? c4640

Bronze ornament in style of younger iron age found in Romerike, Norway.

So the literature really doesn't seem to agree on what this was... some have listed it as a brooch, but it only has a little shank type thing in the back?? it has a convenient hole in the top for maybe hanging? it might have been sewn onto something? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

in any case it's a lovely example of gripping(at least i think i see hands) beasts and a very clear human face, in what some would call Borre style.

design from early iron age fitting found in Hamar, Norway.

Trefoil brooch

Viking age trefoil brooch(C6743) with a big round hole at top of one of its arms.

Found in Lom, Norway, in a grave hill that had been much disturbed. The objects retrieved from the grave showed signs of having been in a fire.

Doesn't seem to have been found with its needle in the back. It might have been of a different material and rusted away or perhaps the brooch was used as a pendant for a time.

C6743 brooch is stored at kulturhistorisk museum in Oslo.

Lovers from Klepp

A pair motif from one of 16 Gullgubber (tiny gold foil) found in Klepp, Norway. Some say the branch she holds represents the family they will grow together.

Gullgubber are found all over Scandinavia, especially in Denmark. And tend to be from the earlier part of the iron age then become less and less common toward the viking age.
