Bernie Nicholls Goes Off For 4 Goals Against Gretzky’s Oilers (1983)
October 20, 1983: The undefeated Edmonton Oilers rolled into the Forum at 7-0.
They didn’t leave that way.
Bernie Nicholls scored twice in the first period (including a power-play marker with Jari Kurri in the box), added a shorthanded goal in the second, and completed the hat trick plus one in the third to finish with 4 goals and 6 points in a 7-2 Kings victory.
Jim Fox added four points. Brian MacLellan chipped in three. And goalie Mike Blake stopped 36 of 38 shots.
Wayne Gretzky scored once but this night belonged to Nicholls.
Five years later, Gretzky and Nicholls would combine for 318 points as teammates in L.A.
