hmmmmmm im not a huge headcanoner myself in terms of the little things like "oh they like cherry tea!" BUT
Cherryfur falls first.
what, you say, but that doesn't make sense! she hates him and doesn't the pathetic wet rat man always fall in love first and that's why he's changing?!?!
okay but listen. why is Cherryfur even putting in this effort to "help" him anyway? i'm not saying she's absolutely head over heels, in fact, i don't think she's ever going to be that in love with him! she always just gets these little crushes on people that come and go and they never stick and they never make sense to her. but Darkstripe is just someone she ends up thinking about a lot, not even as a crush, but because he's just. an interesting creature. she is a scientist and he is a specimen. she can't fathom how he thinks the way he does, and so she just keeps inserting herself into his life. she CAN fix him and she is GOING to, StarClan-be-damned
and Darkstripe. well. all he's ever wanted and been desperate for is attention. so when she starts giving him all this attention, OF COURSE he falls in love her. even though he used to think she was so annoying and he hated her, now that she's all he's got left, and everyone else looks at him like he's a monster (cause, uh, you kinda are dude), she's giving him attention, and it's not always good attention, but he wants it.
really, their relationship isn't exactly. healthy. but also. would any relationship Darkstripe ever had be healthy?
in the future, as Darkstripe actually gets "therapy" it actual would get healthier and they would just immediately go straight into old married couple vibes, skipping any of that honeymoon stuff. they're not a ship that is super romantic with each other just because of how their relationship and feelings with each other came about (in their heads they little ideas like, oh, what if i gave them a flower wouldn't that be cute? but they never do it lol), they more so just realize that, for whatever reason, they like each other, and they want to spend time together
so they do :)
also. Darkstripe wants kits. Cherryfur tells him only if he's the one that gets pregnant lmao

-He would be absolutely AWFUL. i dont even think he would have bad symptoms but he'd complain about EVERYTHING, every little bodyache and nausea, and he'd drive Cherryfur absolutely INSANE -He truly does love kits and while I think he'd be scared being pregnant, i also think he would be thinking about his future kits so much and he'd be so happy (and scared) that he just can't wait for when their there and he can love them. but he's also scared of being a horrible parent and truly does not feel like he can be trusted around any kits, even his own, which isn't helped by how some of his clanmates still dont trust him (for good reason) -I think. I think Sorrelkit/tail would actually try to be good friends with his kids, maybe even want to mentor one. I think she would still hate Darkstripe maybe, but wants to prove that she's, like, able to get over it. able to forget about it. she doesn't even see these kids as his. they're just cute kittens and she's going to protect them. (from him, perhaps? and i think it'd hurt him deeply to know that she's likely not the only one thinking that). -I feel like he and Creekflower would get in an argument. over what, im not sure. but there's bad vibes there. because i think Creek would be upset that he was rude towards her kids and yet now here he is doting over his own. idk how to explain it -as for Cherryfur.... i think she would still think having kits is a horrible idea and not her style, so this is either an accidental pregnancy, they made some kind of agreement/compromise, or Darkstripe went behind her back and plans on having the kittens on his own (in this last scenario, I'd envision they don't have a full relationship, more an open one). she would still put her all into being a parent though, and she'd defend Darkstripe publicly but probably also fairly express her concerns on his ability to be a good parent. she knows he'd love his/their kits though, and she would want to nurture that. she does think that having kits would help him in the sense of him finding peace and love (but she also believes that you shouldnt have kits just to "fix" a problem).
DarkxCherry is literally my favorite ship in the entire Burning Thistles universe. So I have to ask... Will we ever see kits from them?

ik kits would be really really cute and all, but not every relationship is defined by whether or not they have kits! neither of them are particularly interested in having kits of their own, plus Cherry would be a firm "im not having kits unless we are emotionally, financially, economically, socially, physically, mentally prepared to have kits," like she wouldn't wanna risk having kits and bringing them into a bad home/environment
and also she doesn't wanna have kits lol
