Random Marauders Headcanon

At the beginning of each month they would sit in a circle in the middle of their dorm room and pass around a box of Bertie Botts

They would each choose one blindly and keep it locked in their hand, not looking at it.

Once each of them had a bean in their hand they’d count down from 3. When they get to 1 they would all tip the jellybean into their mouths without knowing what they got.

If the bean was a nice flavour they got ‘good luck’ that month. If it was a bad flavour then they got ‘bad luck’.

Once Peter got a bean he couldn’t decipher and after much discussion they decided that meant Peter’s luck would be average with chance of going either way depending on the day.

James got a marshmallow flavoured bean in November of 1977, and sure enough 2 weeks later Lily asked him out to Hogsmeade.

Sirius being the little shit he was always pretended he got a good flavour, even when the taste of rotten eggs was still lingering on his tongue he would smile and just announce loudly “Caramel! I am the Bertie Botts God clearly! How’re enjoying the Vinegar over there Prongsy?” before a very well aimed pillow smacked him in the face.

Remus got a Watermelon flavoured bean once. At the end of the month he and Sirius had started to date. When talking about how they got together he would always joke about how watermelon was clearly a bad flavoured bean before lacing his fingers with Sirius’ and claiming “thankfully watermelon is one of my favourite flavours”

When Lily and James got together she joined in with the tradition. In November of 1979, just for fun Lily picked up a box of Bertie Botts. Toffee. Just under a week later she found out she was pregnant.

Then the war became more important. All their energy was spent fighting and raising Harry once he was born and the old tradition was forgotten about. But on the evening of October 1st 1981, James came across a box of jellybeans. He smiled slightly, thinking of all the good times he shared with the marauders back at Hogwarts. For old times sake he grabbed a bean. Taking a deep breath he put the bean to his lips. Just then Harry started crying, he put the bean on the table and went to tend to his son. Unfortunately what he didn’t know was that the bean had been a bad flavour…

guys. guys, help. i... i somehow created a jellybean barter system among the marauders.

just. just listen okay?

so remus has this super sharp nose, right? and like... his friends very quickly figure out that that he has the ability to sniff out the flavors of bertie botts every flavor beans so that they're not caught unaware by flavors that they don't want any part of. he is thereby designated the official bean sorter.

so they've got a pile that's good for eating, a pile that's good for dares and pranks, and then a pile for the bin (because some flavors just shouldn't exist.)

and by their fifth year there is a SYSTEM to this, okay? because they all have specific flavors that the others maybe aren't too keen on. but there are beans in the "okay for consumption" pile that are hot commodities, and they wind up developing their own barter system over it. like, actions that earn X amount of beans or whatever.

and idk man i have opinions about what their favorite flavors are and everything. james loves bitter flavors and is the only one you'll catch dead eating kale on purpose. sirius loves all the fruit flavors but citrus in particular. peter wants his beans to try to burn a hole in his tongue and remus just fuckin wants bread and like... tea and herb flavors (except around the moon, then he's all about those weird raw meat ones that they keep aside just for him.)

anyway that all gets completely destroyed when lily comes in, and james tries to corner the market on stone fruit flavors on her behalf instead of just stealing the ones he really wanted (just a few, here and there) like remus had been doing the whole time.

brain: okay but let's hyperfocus on jellybean flavors first.

I rarely post or even repost. I have my reasons. I am taking a chance again and am choosing to share my art. It is not fancy and I don’t practice as much as I would like. I am a firm believer in that people should be able to like whatever characters or fandoms they like. The art is for the artist and when an artist chooses to share I think that is very special. If you do not like any of the characters I have drawn then please just scroll past me I am not looking to insult or even debate anyone. I just want to share some of my hard work as I want to be more involved in the fandom community. Some of my art may already be found on the one real post I made before. Please be respectful as I try hard to be even when I my self dislike something.
