Inspired by her West African roots, Bespoke Binny founder Natalie Yaa Obenewa Thompson, has designed a line of home furnishings that are reminiscent of a colourful African marketplace using a mixture of vibrant wax prints and cotton twills tailoring cushions, kitchen & dining ware and lampshades.
There’s no place like home. So for anyone looking to update their interiors and lift their spirits, Bespoke Binny provides the perfect answer…
All cushions are handcrafted and beautifully finished with a contrast piping to enhance the textures from the main fabrics. For those looking for something a little more quirky, Bespoke Binny’s range of Nyansa ‘Wisdom’ Cushions come with inspiring African proverbs such as; ‘If you think you are too small to make a difference you haven’t spent the night with a mosquito’, making a perfect, welcome home message after a long day. The Bespoke Binny AW14 collection will also be expanding to incorporate new lines such as scented aroma therapy pillows and African proverb wall art.
Last year Bespoke Binny exhibited at ‘Africa day at Spitalfields’ and also received an overwhelming response at the brand’s first show at African Fashion Week. Bespoke Binny is available online and purchases are shipped worldwide.
The founder, Natalie Yaa Obenewa Thompson launched the online home furnishing brand after her mother became seriously ill and she wanted to gift her with something to comfort her. As a lover of soft furnishings Natalie, a CBT therapist drew on inspirations from her mother’s native Ghana and took to the sewing machine to create supportive and colourful cushions which she later decided to add a few positive words using African proverbs. Having received interest from other family members and friends, Natalie realised the potential commercial viability of turning a hobby into a business, thus the idea for Bespoke Binny came to fruition.
At work I see so many people who feel down or have a lack of support. I feel like Bespoke Binny, particularly my choices of positive and uplifting African proverbs, are an extension of my career. My hope is that they will help to uplift and inspire others.
