"-but I was too young and too short and there were no female captains, but my dad said be patient he said just see what happens" Beverley Bass' words (or at least in CFA) may have been about planes in the late 1950s, but the line is still one that I relate too a lot. I decided I wanted to navigate the seas at 10 years old, and at that point I wasn't even sure girls could be merchant officers, but I still worked towards that goal. For the majority of those years, I felt there was no role model, no one I could 'I want to be like them when I grow up,' until few years ago I came across the insta of a certain Captain, who fast became a bit of a professional idol to me. Yesterday that same Captain let me do the maneuver from the berth during our departure from Miami. Thabk you @captainkatemccue for the opportunity, encouragment, confidence and support, and for being a continued inspiration. #celebritycruises #celebrityequinox #bestcaptain #bestjobintheworld #girlsatsea #womenatsea #dreamcometrue (please note I didn't know I was coming to celebrity - wasn't a following thing - if I knew I don't think I would have applied cause I didn't think I was good enough to be part of this team--but I'm so glad I did). https://www.instagram.com/p/Bujbx15nIEC/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1pm9az06niyqx
