The M E T Gala 2020
Meet the report about how a former elven prince, an immortal archaeologist and a traveler between the worlds were visiting a gala ball. Well, actually it doesn't matter much who they are - the more important thing is what they wear [ or so it seems ]. And since I’m terribly late and made everything in recent two hours, there won’t be any edit at all. Let’s say the paparazzi were not paid for the photoshopped pics.
So, what’s going on here? Let's try to figure it out:
Orien: Hmm, Ellaria, I'm kinda troubled... What are we doing here?
Ellaria: Trying to improve your social skills! No more questions, smile and just act natural, go on!
Orien: You're a bit contradicting yourself, you know?
Ellaria: Wave to that photographer on your left! Gods of the Underworld, and he was a prince once...
Verner: Ri, I don't want to scare you, but there's an interview ahead.
Orien: What?! She didn't tell me about anything like that! What's the theme?
Ellaria: If you can't smile, make a mysterious face! Please.
Verner: Fashion - time and duration. By the way, Larry, what's your outfit about?
Orien: And the outfit was supposed to be about something? Can I go home?
Ellaria: Mr. Black, your theme should sound as "Name and suit - apparent contradiction". And mine is simple. Fashion is eternal fight of humanity. Fight for self-expression, fight for beauty, fight for freedom. That's why I'm wearing the breastplate today - to continue this fight. So here's the duration. And here's a fun fact: the concept of a corset was inspired by real armor, did you know? That returns us to the subject of fashion lasting through times. As for the main theme - who dares to say that fur isn't fashionable enough?
Verner: And if you encounter such a daredevil, you'll show them your accessory tommy-gun?
Orien: Am I supposed to invent an explanation for my outfit in remaining few minutes? Well... Maybe something about... Ugh... About... Verner, after all, it was all your idea! Oh, there're the journalists! Maybe I can at least pretend I don't speak English?
Verner: Listen to Larry and make a mysterious face. I can handle them - because actually we share the same theme. So... what is fashion without time, without origin, without symbolism? What we wear is not only a piece of fabric to cover our nudeness - its meaning is bigger and wider. Our clothes determines our image, makes people treat us one way or another. But why is that? What code does the fashion hide and reveal and where are the roots? Why black is black and why does it raise one feeling? Why white calls to other? Why medals are a symbol of war and why roses are a symbol of love? What is classic and what is original and why we call them so? I tell you. Fashion is inextricably linked with human history and is affected by everything we meet and know. Fashion is an ideal blueprint of our experience, a perfect canvas to draw a portrait of the epoch or even of several ones...
Orien: Is there any - even purely theoretical - possibility that he understands the difference between a short interview and a philosophical essay?
Ellaria: Verner, I need a drink. Do you know where is the bar?
Verner: Oh sure, let me show you!
Orien: Okay, so I'll simply tell that the design of this shirt is based on a 17th century pattern. I got it.
