OH FUCK YEA these are fun. my copy of the mabinogion is coming in SOON so hopefully i can get the time to actually appreciate bedivere in all his bedwyr glory BUT. yeah. honestly most the later legends shaft him and give a lot of his glory to lancelot or gawain i think .......... maybe i cant actually remember what they stole to give to their ocs. whatever.
bedivere is VERY GOOD. everyone needs to know he is literally the marshal of arthurs court. he can do whatveer the fuck he wants and by god he will. and by he will i mean he uses this power to go on fun adventures boar hunting with his brother in laws dog. i love cavall. god ilove bedivere.
him and kay are literally flirting buddies. theyre the nice old gay couple that lives next door and makes thanksgiving dinner for all the dysfunctional younger gays in the town. theyre nightmares. kay just in general needs adult supervision and most of the time that ends up being bedivere. kay will do taxes sure he thinks math is fun but wont do literally anything else and this is when COURT MARSHALL BEDI steps in and does the rest.
for some reason bedivere just lets kay adopt like . 50 children . and really never steps in when he makes them cry . sir you husband is making perceval sob please do something about this already.
i like the welsh sources when it comes to bedi more because he has one hand and kay. being kay. likes to go “by the hand of my friend!” like that is just cute. alsohe would fight with a sword and shield in the same hand and is one of the best knights in court. il ove my dad.
in the vulgate cycle they literally just replaced him with his cousin griflet?? Which is weird. oh yeah bedivere has a brother, lucan whos the court butler. i love him. and his cousin, griflet is just a knight hes cool tho. anyways sometimes griflet will be the one to return excalibur to the lady at the end sometimes bedivere. i like it being bedi more because
weird fact that . is weirdly put into a lot of detail in the end of le morte is that bedivere AND lucan survive the battle of camlann and are the ones who drag arthur to avalon. and god malory sir i did not need to go into so much information about lucans stomach spilling open and his organs spilling out. what hte ufck was that. bedivere starts crying at that. thats so messed up malory what is wrong with you.
anyways uhh last fun fact thats not so fun is sometimes kay will also have survived camlann which ltierally makes me cry so hard. theyre the last two knights to come out of everything and they were the first to be there building it up. its so much oh my god i love my dads i cant do this
