To most, such a presence would have been unsettling. She assumed that was what he wanted. But she was far from most. Often, she was considered inhumanely calm. Kyouko was, whether she intended to be or not, one to defy expectation.

She could only assume she had done something that contradicted human behavior. Of course, she was well acquainted with the flaws of humanity. How many crimes had she seen committed? How many lives had she seen unjustly, unfairly stolen? Countless. She had been in the thicket of it from the time she was a child, whether she wanted that or not. It wasn’t as if the past could be erased or forgotten.
