Today for after school, I wanted to teach the children about Jesus being a friend to Zacchaeus. However, I needed them to understand the type of person Zacchaues was before he encountered Jesus. So before I even introduced the lesson, I told them that I was going to share some Lucky Charms with them but before they ate it, they had to pay a cereal tax. I explained that they had to give up 7 pieces of cereal.. after a few complaints & some whining the kids have up the 7 pieces. I then went & collected extra for myself because thats Zacchaues did. They were upset! They complained & told me I was wrong -- one girl even cried. I told them to eat whatever they had left and watch the video I had for them. The video was the story of Zacchaues & when it finished the kids understood the whole point of "cereal tax" .. they realized that I was wrong & since Jesus is a friend of mine like he was of Zacchaues, that I would give back what I took plus more.
