There's been so much The Terror everywhere recently that I had to sketch the main characters.. Charles Best and William Pilkington of course! 😀
Best is one of those people who just cannot for the life of them sit idly; he’s always singing, humming, whistling, or else drumming his fingers along to some unknown beat. Pilkington finds this very adorable—though he would never admit it aloud. He finds it less cute when he ends up with whatever drinking song or shanty Charles has been singing stuck in his head while he’s on watch, however.
It’s even worse when he finds himself humming a familiar song in the mutineers’ camp, separated from the man he loves by more than just distance.
When he’s properly drunk, Pilkington can usually be coaxed into singing (something he rarely, if ever, does when he’s sober). Best finds this adorable and will encourage him every chance he gets. More often than not, he’s the one starting the drinking songs and convincing Pilk to join in.
When he comes off watch, Best likes to press his cold fingers under Pilkington’s collar and laugh when the private jumps or squirms away. It’s his way of teasing him and it is well worth the shove he usually gets in return. Pilk roundly curses him out every time he does it, but the man’s anger is mostly for show. He’s terribly fond of the Best, much to his own exasperation and dismay.

Charles Best is still laughing. Or again. He’s a cheery sort, Bill has learned that in the months they’ve been sailing already. Always ready to joke with hs fellow AB’s and the marines alike. The ship boys, hell, the officers even. Honestly who does that? Bill scoffs and has a smaller sip from his tin mug. Scuffs the worn boards of the deck with the toe of his boot. They’ll have the sailors scrub it after Christmas. Have everything ship-shape for the new year and the thaw and what not. Charles Best on his knees, holystoning the deck like it’s the easiest thing in the world was a sight the first time around and Bill reckons it will be a sight now.
