New at Beta Klinik: Pediatric Radiology
Dr. Andre W. Demant, radiologist and pediatric radiologist, has joined the interdisciplinary team of our Joint Practice for Neuroradiology, Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology, Pediatric Radiology, Neurosurgery and Sports Medicine.
After his studies of human medicine at the University of Bonn(Germany), he worked as an assistant physician at the University of Bern (Suisse). Following his work as a senior physician and the governmental approval of his specialization in radiology and pediatric radiology, he has started to work for Beta Klinik and Asklepios Children´s Hospital in July 2011.
Sedations and anesthesia during MRI examinations are possible since Dr. Demant is supported by an experienced anesthesia team.

Workshop for Physicians: Mastering Endovenous Laser Occlusion
Dear colleagues,
I hereby cordially invite you to the “Mastering Endovenous Laser Occlusion” course on May 27th and 28th at the Beta Clinic in Bonn /Germany.
In recent years, endovenous approaches to the treatment of varicose veins have become increasingly popular as an alternative to longestablished surgical procedures. Considering the trend towards less invasive and more gentle techniques, it can be predicted that endovenous laser approaches will play an increasing role in the future of the treatment of varicose veins.
This workshop will focus both on the basics of laser treatment which are a prerequisite to the safe and successful utilization of this technique as well as the specific medical perspective on the treatment of varicose veins with laser technology.
The course is designed to lead the participant through all steps of the endovenous laser treatment, from diagnostics and the determination of adequate indications to the results of long term studies on the effectiveness of endovenous laser occlusion.
Supported by live surgeries and hands-on workshops, the participant will get a thorough understanding of the endovenous laser procedure and have the possibility to interact with a group of experienced international

Prof. Gilsbach is Consultant at Beta Klinik
We are glad to welcome Prof. Dr. med. Joachim Michael Kaspar Gilsbach as neurosurgical consultant at Beta Klinik. Prof. Gilsbach has its roots and mentality from the Saarland in the south of Germany. He was born into a family of physicians and businessmen. Initially, he wanted to become a neurologist but early discovered his inclination towards surgery as a medical assistant in a praxis for handsurgery of Dr. Blandtfort.
After 33 years in a leading position, 13 as leading senior physician in Freiburg and more than 20 years as the Director of the Neurosurgical Faculty of the University Hospital Aachen, Prof. Gilsbach devotes himself to new tasks. From now on, he does apply his knowledge and experience as consultant neurosurgeon both in counseling and operating.

25th May, 2011: Further education for physicians: Patient´s will and physician´s responsibility
The patient´s will and the physician´s responsibilty play a crucial role in every patient-physician-relation. The physician as specialist and person of trust has to make medical decisions to preserve patient´s health and to effectively fight illnesses and diseases. But on the other hand, a patient may not want to be treated anymore during a severe illness or disease or even more difficult -- the patient may want to die and ask the physician to help them in this matter.
How can we assess the patient´s will in such a situation and how can we reconcile this with the physician´s responsibility? At this point, physicians have to take medical, ethical, psychological and legal aspects into consideration.
Prof. Dr. med. Jürgen Reul will introduct the interesting and challenging topic "Patient´s will and physician´s responsibility". Dr. med. Barbara Hawellek will detail the psychiatric and psychological view of the patient´s autonomy and their ability to be critical and to judge even in case of suicidal tendencies. Dr. jur. Stefan Hiebl as attorney of law will deal with legal factors. When is a medical treatment a bodily harm? Which right of self-determination do patients have? Which kind of problems may occur while treating suicidal patients and how should active or passive euthanasia be assessed legally?
We will be glad to welcome you at our further education for physicians.
