In the hospital after the first surgery I would have these really beautiful dreams of being underwater surrounded by plants and flowers with sunlight filtering through causing sparkles in my eyes as I walk on the ocean floor; dreams of playing with my friends running down the stairs chasing them giddy with laughter feeling a thrill so intense as I ran, so peculiar, that I would wake up; feeling like the sunlight and stars and flowers, and then; just, not being able to feel my legs.
On repeat.
The brain took some time to catch up with what happened to the body.
I would have preferred nightmares over that. Without a doubt. The paralysis didn't just happen once— It happened again and again and again, and again, still does; less often though.
I know this is a semi-old image but as someone with back issues this is just cruel. I’m almost 23 and I have bladder incontinence due to my spinal issues. Spinal disorders cause urinary ‘full signals’ to be sent less, and nerve damage to the bladder nerves causes less sensation until it’s too late. I have had friends who were protesting and were jailed before and were denied the toilet until they were about to pee themselves. So the fact that he has spinal issues and the police likely denied him toilet access until he lost bladder control is infuriating. Yay for police brutality I guess… taking a photo as well just to humiliate him is so insane.
if you have CHRONIC back pain, what effect do bras have on your pain?
All/Most bras make my pain worse
Some bras make my pain worse
Bras have no effect on my pain
Some bras make my pain better
All/Most bras make my pain better

I’m also curious about what specific kinds of bras/alternatives make pain better or worse. If you want to specify your cause of back pain that would be cool too :)
This article gives an overview of the different types of degenerative disk disease, what it feels like, how it might be caused, and how it is diagnosed...
Degenerative disk disease isn’t a disease. It’s the name for what happens when your spinal disks begin to wear down. Learn more about treatm
"Degenerative disk disease ... isn’t actually a disease, but rather, it’s a condition that occurs when your spinal disks wear down. Spinal disks are rubbery cushions between your vertebrae (bones in your spinal column). They act as shock absorbers and help you move, bend and twist comfortably. Everyone’s spinal disks degenerate over time — it’s a natural part of aging.
When the cushions wear away, the bones can start to rub together. This contact can cause pain and other problems, like:
• Adult scoliosis, where your spine curves
• Herniated disk, also called a bulged, slipped or ruptured disk
• Spinal stenosis, when the space in your spinal canal narrows
• Spondylolisthesis, when vertebrae move in and out of place"
Had to, uh, kinda remind the wife of a guy suffering from spinal stenosis that he's genuinely in real pain and not faking it for attention, that his treatment options are scary and can be debilitating in their own ways, that we're all one bad day away from permanent disability. Idk if I got through to her, but at least she got the reminder. And she knows my stance if she complains about him in front of me again.
