Do you want to be a Beta Reader for Correction Camp?
Well, it’s your lucky day! If you want to be a beta reader for Correction Camp, this is your chance. Come and join me on this wild adventure that is sure to bring a headache or two(Don’t worry, it’ll be worth it in the end). I’d like to get this step out of the way while I’m still in the major research stage of this process, so I know who to turn to for a thorough dissection of the chapters as my brain decides to let me write them.
For those of you who don’t know what a Beta Reader does, here you go:
Check for any major problems with grammar(Word use, spell-check, etc).
Watch out for plot holes(among other things, like problems with continuity, characterization, and realistically).
I’m sure there are probably other smaller things that can be thrown in with that, but these are the major points. If you want to look up the job of a Beta Reader to see if there’s anything else you can do, go ahead; I’m not stopping you from doing so.
Here’s some qualifications I’m looking for:
You must be fluent in the English language. I won’t say that English has to be your first language, but you must be fluent.
Under no circumstances should you consider my writing to be pure gold, or a gift sent from the Heavens. I am not perfect, and chances are, my writing won’t be either. You have to be willing to point out even small flaws to me. Remember, I won’t bite you for pointing out flaws, that’s you’re job as a Beta Reader. (On a side note, if I’m in a bad mood, I will let you know. My temper tends to flare. If I say I’m in a bad mood, please, just back away and note any mistakes you find in a file on Google Docs, and I will check it out/get back to you when I’m in a better mood. Also, if you think I’m being I’m being rude/snappy, tell me! I’ll back off and calm down. The last thing I want to do is hurt anyone.)
Speaking of me being rude, you have to be comfortable with swearing. Granted, if you’re on Tumblr you’re probably already comfortable with it, but this book will have it. Not a lot, but just enough. Prepare yourself.
As much as it pains me to say this, I cannot pay you. I would love to, honestly, but I’m broke! If you do help me out and the book ends up published, I will send you a considerable amount of the first profits over Paypal. I’m not heartless, I know how to give what is due.
You need to be comfortable talking to me. I don’t want you panicking if you get a message from me! I have a bit of anxiety myself, and I’m really no different than anyone here. I’m nothing special, so there’s no need to be nervous!
Okay, last list. As a Beta Reader, you will:
Have access to any notes that I make.
Have access to the Google Docs files where I draft and finalize each chapter. Who knows, maybe you can catch some mistakes early!
Will have access to the blog. (Well, sort of. If you want to say something to the people, I can post it for you, but this is just a side blog. Giving you my log-in information would provide you with access to my other blogs, and that is unfortunately something I’m not willing to risk.)
There’s probably some other stuff I’m forgetting, but It’s currently 11:20 PM EST, and it’s hard to remember a lot of the stuff I wanted to write when I started this post. If there’s anything else, I’ll edit this post later.
Anyway, I think that’s all for now! Keep an eye on this post for edits if I think of them, and thank you for your time!
