remember when dean was asking if rio listened to beth more?? only took two more seasons for him to finally see it.
the fact that beth STILL cant tell dean whats going on even though she is helping the secret service put rio away FOR dean (supposedly)
still thinking about the juxtaposition of stan/ruby and beth/dean in that episode:
the way that ruby worried for all of a day that stan was cheating on her (and only because of mick’s influence lbr) before just coming right out and saying it and then her and stan immediately had an honest conversation about it.
vs
the way that dean has absolutely NO idea what’s going on between beth and rio. dean is in PRISON because of beth working with rio and they STILL can’t have an honest conversation about it. dean still thinks that beth is sleeping with rio, despite the fact that beth has been trying to orchestrate his downfall (via the hitman and now the secret service) for quite some time. and dean thinks this because beth won’t tell him! she won’t tell him the truth! because there is no honesty in their relationship, there’s no trust or transparency. there’s only rose-colored glasses for gazing into the past.

Thank you so much for that Answer because I got worried for a second that they were trying to get beth and dean back together by doing those flashbacks and also by him plead Guilty?
there’s no way to know for sure what they’re going to do but (spoilers for future episodes ahead!) as other people have pointed out: there is supposed to be a love triangle that doesn’t involve dean and i think i also saw something about dean trying to go back to gayle? i’m not sure if that was a spoiler or speculation though.
either way, it does seem like beth and dean are finally going to be moving away from each other romantically. i also really do think the flashbacks were meant to serve as like “this is where it all started” to feel the impact of how it’s all about to end.
