Guys i finally joined the Starbound smp oc bandwagon and omg its so fun, i'm going to go silly goofy about xem <3
their an Altairen, or 'star-seeker' the commonly referred name of moth-like folk who inhabit stars for refuge! their physical appearance camouflages into the star their inhabiting, so if you happen to get close enough to spot one, their written of as a simple 'solar flare' and after the choice of keeping their name close to their chest, they thought the Alias was funny <3
He's an artist! and a goofy guy! Wandering ports job-to-job just for the thrill of it! and his last ship is totally in one piece don't you worry! the burnt popcorn was why it smelled like smoke, no other reason :)
And well after the popcorn incident he wasn't welcomed back to the ship,, which is how he found his way to apply for the Betsee crew!
Extra's of my alien species thoughts because I created a concept and then fell in love with figuring out how they'd work <3
Altairens live anywhere from 100-300 years, but it can vary based on what kind of star they live on! and the health of it!
They've got moon shaped pupils- which follow the moon cycles depending on where they look! (full moon when their really happy, this is the single thing i am rule-of-cool-ing)
Normalized differences in limbs (some only have one pair of arms, while others have multiple), along with that it is most common that they have two sets of large fluffy wings, but its not rare for someone to have a single set, Altairens are a species very familiar with differing looks
The colors of star-seekers corresponds to the star their most comfortable on temperature wise, often correlating to the one they were born on, but not always, sometimes the colors will be passed down genetically.
Because of their alternating colors, blue Altairens are the most rare, and least seen in non-star situations as their so used to intense heat that its incredibly hard on them physically to be off-star. On the flip side Altairens more on the red spectrum are the ones most often seen in shipping ports as they can most easily adapt to the colder temperature of space, there's still some complications regarding heat, but red Altairens can act as their own heat source enough to cope being off-star.
THEY GLOW IN THE DARK!!! TO BLEND IN WITH STARS MORE!
Those around should be wary of touching them as unless otherwise prepared their internal body-temperture can cause serious burns.
While red Altairens are more frequent to travel space, ultimately it is only recently with the rise of star-farming by the Rionear that it has even been heard of to see them traveling through space ports, before then they were incredibly reclusive as a culture.
Adding onto that, Altairens have incredible cultural attachment to the stars they inhabit, and through thousands and thousands of years of cultivation they are experts in telling when stars are going supernova or are going to fade out, and also the general health of the star, they are not quite symbiotic in their life cycle, but they aren't parasitic either, believing the sun's that house them akin to gods, as they provide everything Altairens need, and harming them to be a serious offense (and. oh boy are Altairens filled with moth instincts despite it all)
Also, like many different kinds of moths, Altairens sizes range wildly, at largest getting up to 12 feet, with the shortest being around 5 feet, like some types of fish they grow to suit their environment, if they grow up on a small dwarf star they'll likely be on the shorter end, with larger stars providing more space and fostering taller Altairens
It's more up to debate for me but right now i think Altairens primarily consume radiation! which is likely how they evolved to cohabitate with stars- before eventually being able to withstand their blazing heat, out of necessity!
Anyway <3 I think alien moths that live and base a lot of their life around stars is just really cool and I love Pyxis <3
