I love my job. I'm grateful for my job. I appreciate all my career does for me. That said, my job, industry, and airline doesn't love us back. We work barely legal hours, get paid for a fraction of those, have a draconic punitive sick time system, in the list goes on. Transportation labor laws haven't been revamped since the railroad act. . And it's illegal for us to go on strike. . I'm not picketing today with my friends because I'm working (and @apfaunity says I can't affect operations oh fiiine), but I'm proud of everyone for speaking out on a system that can so easily be improved for EVERYONE. Can you imagine how much better the industry would be if we all loved and felt appreciated by and safe at our jobs ? Learn how social media affects the job of a human resources professional.

As one can lucidly see after reading this article, human resources is not just about planning benefits packages for employees. It’s about so much more than that (ex. screening and hiring, training, obtaining company feedback, etc.) and social media further complicates matters for the HR department. Social Media + HR = challenges + opportunities. So, social media will help make certain things more difficult for the HR department. For example, if the company needs to downsize/ make a major change, it can be broadcast via Twitter to let everyone (including shareholders) know more easily about what is going on with their company and do what must be done. On the other hand, it can be a positive in terms of recruiting because, no longer is the resume our only backing up to get hired. On LinkedIn, we can put all our professional experience, degrees, activities, etc. all on it so that employers can see exactly what an employee is like before they are even hired! So, social media is going to have it’s negatives and positives for HR, and over the next few years, we will maximize the pluses and minimize the minuses.
