“I’m so sorry!” Linda began picking up her books, avoiding the eye of the boy she’d just walked directly into.

She didn’t understand why adapting to school was so hard for her. There were just so many people around compared to how much time she spent alone in the palace and she had to do so much talking. It wasn’t that she minded it but it took some getting used to, not to mention the crowds. She was used to seeing them from far away but not being part of one. They just pushed everyone around as they were getting to where they were going it wasn’t like she could just use magic to stop from running into people, firstly since she didn’t know a spell like that and secondly since people probably wouldn’t like it.

“I swear I was watching where I was going but there’s just so many people in here.”

The sight of the man caused her heart to find her mouth. How long had it been now? Fantine couldn't recall Cosette's face any more. She had beautiful chocolate curls and curious large eyes that begged to learn about the world. The scent of her had faded from the baby bonnet Fantine kept beneath her pillow.

The slums were never quiet, but Fantine had never seen them like this. Those students in fine coats who preached revolution and distributed flyers people couldn't read. They would call themselves passionate, she would call them a nuisance.

She was a child of revolution— what did she have to show for it?

It couldn't be him. He never fought for his daughter's cause let alone the polite of the poor. Perhaps it was the sign she needed to accept she was drinking too much. Still, she needed to work and they were scaring off clients. The police would be here in a matter of moments, Fantine was sure of it. And then what? Scurrying into the cracks like cockroaches.

"I do not care for your cause, Monsieur," she dismissed as one of them tried to hand her a flyer. "I care for things that are real, like coin. Something you're getting in my way of."

Startling him was the last thing she wanted to do. When he jumped, she did so as well in similar fashion to a skittish cat. Her hand immediately withdrew from ghosting his arm. “I am so sorry, I shouldn't have done that.” The fear and anxiety in his eyes was something that she knew all too well. The world had not been very kind to him, as it had been with her as well. “Do you want me to leave? I can leave if you'd like, I totally understand if you never want to see me again...” She nervously prattled on. Apologies often passed her lips like a common prayer, almost as if she were apologizing for her existence.

You wanna---" The newsie rounded the corner where Crutchie had set up shop that morning to sell the morning paper. But before he had a chance to continue, he noticed the grotesque state of her face, the blood pooled around her shirt.

"Jeesus-- Charlie, what happened to you?" he asked, concern flashing across his face. He pulled his vest off and held it over to his friend. "Who did this?" Already, his hand was balling into a fist, ready to storm after whoever was to blame.

It was snowing. And she didn't have furr to be kept warm. Surely, he could have thought of that but he was not used to having people around anymore. His servants had become furniture and he..... well, the Beast had more than enough t spare.

Still, he took off his cape and placed on Belle's shoulders.

"Here." Beast said as he also tried to move closer to her, to keep her warm. "I can go fetch another coat if you want." Or just ask Cogsworth to do it.
