DH Mack

Mack’s figurative paintings are based on a contemporary narrative inspired by society. Her paintings explore the meaning of life by observing and seeing people.Their visibility/ invisibility, their movement and beauty. Her intention is to understand the workings of society by analyzing the complex web of group dynamics, connections and disagreements. In her work she questions identity, placement and time. How we relate, connect or distance ourselves from others.

To create the triptych “Between People” she used her skills as a street photographer to look for body-language, light and shadows. Photographing women on the street, isolating their images from their surroundings and carefully placing them in a compositional rhythm.

Of the women chosen for the painting she created 18 individual stencils and used spray-paint on double canvas to create a layered effect.

Some of the women are only visible by existing as the negative space of the people around them. Many studies were made before she reached the desired effect of the triptych, which is specially made for BIG Art 2025

Mack comes from a background in sculpture, photography and film. She’s inspired by street-art, philosophy, sociology and literature.
