Robert Durst has been making headlines for years. From the disappearance of his first wife to his most recent arrest in New Orleans, the real-estate heir has perplexed and terrified the nation. Making sense of Durst’s past, the Morris Black trial and the the new charges against him can make your head spin.
Private Investigator, Bobbi Bacha
To help us understand the rumors surrounding Robert Durst (pictured above left) — specifically his bizarre relationship with dismemberment victim, Morris Black (pictured above, right) — Crime Feed sat down with Private Investigator, Bobbi Bacha, to get her insights on the case. Bacha investigated Robert Durst for over 15 years and can be seen this Sunday on Investigation Discovery’s Vanity Fair Confidential: The Robert Durst Story at 7/6c.
In the interview, Bacha explained her most intriguing, terrifying and downright creepy theories about Robert Durst’s relationship with Morris Black. Here’s what she had to say:
Crime Feed: How do you think Morris Black and Robert Durst first met?
Bobbi Bacha: According to Harry Black’s widow, Morris’ sister-in-law, the Black brothers were working at a farm connected to and possibly owned by the Durst organization. It’s likely that Durst and Black met through said farm. Also of note: I think Morris Black knew Robert’s brother, Douglas, who owns one of the largest organic farms in North America.
CF: Like Durst’s dark childhood and missing wife, did Morris Black have a seedy history before the two met?
BB: Yes. From my research Morris Black had a long history of mistreating tenants. Black ran a slumlord type apartment complex in Massachusetts before moving to Texas. Tenants from his earlier properties told me stories about his hatred of women and general mistreatment of others.
CF: We know Robert Durst had a penchant for assumed identities and living off the grid — did Morris Black exhibit similar behavior?
BB: Robert Durst and Morris Black shared a desire for anonymity. Durst was known for talking to himself, as evidenced in the final episode of the HBO series, Jinx. In Durst’s private moment, luckily caught on tape, we can hear him talking to himself as though two or three people are in the bathroom with him. Durst was also known to dress as a woman, assuming false names and even pretend to be “mute.”
It’s my belief that Morris Black was drawn to Durst because of their shared interest in living off the grid. Black never had a publicly listed phone number and operated without a trail of credit card charges by forcing his tenants to pay cash. Black was known to go on extended vacations, but there is little record of his exact whereabouts. Clearly, the two men have a knack for going undetected.

CF: Do you think Robert Durst had multiple victims and did Morris Black played an integral role in those killings?
BB: We know for sure that Morris Black was one of Durst victims and I believe that Durst murdered his first wife, Kathleen Durst, Susan Berman and Kristen Modaferri. Based on my years of research, interviews and tracking, there could be hundreds of unnamed victims. Sadly, I don’t know if we will ever know the full number of victims or their names. To get closer to the truth, investigators should look to Manorville, Long Island, where I think Durst dumped his unnamed victims. While I don’t think Morris Black was party to Kathy’s disappearance, I do think Black and Durst worked together as a serial-killing duo. My theory is that they targeted homeless victims by trolling around shelters and praying on the inherently vulnerable and downtrodden.
CF: Why do you think Robert Durst would kill (allegedly in self-defense) and dismember his parter in crime?
BB: It’s simple — Morris Black knew too much. I think Durst confided in Black about his high profile crimes, namely the death of Susan Berman and the disappearance of Kathy Durst. Black’s knowledge of Durst’s dark past and their time together was too much and Black had to be silenced. While the two men worked together, Robert Durst had a lot more to lose.
