Third Entry
#MacbethEntersDressedAsKing
Today I was named King of Scotland. After the deaths of Duncan and Banquo, the sons of Duncan, Malcom and Donaldbain, fled to England. In their act of fleeing the blame was placed on them. This alleviated the suspicion of me being the murderer. Banquo, who I once saw as a threat, lives no more. I have secured my position as king. But I fear that the witches’ prophecies were correct and Fleance would overthrow me.

The mental stress of this secret keeps torturing me. I would rather die than continue to suffer from the guilt that confines me. “ O, full of scorpions is my mind.”(Shakespeare 47) I see no end to this constant torture. Earlier today, I had delusions of Banquo’s ghost, sitting at the dinner table. My fear and guilt forced me to call out Banquo’s name. How could Banquo be here? The assassins proclaimed him dead. No one else was able to see the ghost who stood in front of me. Was my mind playing tricks on me or was there some supernatural force? Have I gone too far? Can things return to what they were before? I must make things right. I will go visit the witches, in hope of receiving good news.
#BewareTheThaneOfFife
After seeing Banquo’s ghost I decided to visit the witches. I was shown three apparitions that told me my fate. The first apparition was an image of a knight who warned me of Macduff. The second apparition was a bloody child, this supernatural being told me that none of a woman born will harm me. The third and final apparition was of a crowned child grasping a tree. He informed me that if I were to be defeated, all of Birnamwood would have to seize Dunasinane Hill. (Click this link to learn more about Birnamwood). This news excited and focused my attention on Macduff. It was then that I knew Macduff had to die. When I returned to the castle I instructed my assassins to kill Macduff and his family. The assassins sent me a letter a few days later. In the letter, they talked about how Macduff fled to England, but they were able to slay his wife and children.

It appears as if my wife is beginning to go crazed. I have met with numerous doctors to try and help her before she tells our secret. Times are unsettling, the threat of England invading looms over Scotland. My scouts tell me that the English army is moving to strike Dunsainane. What shall I do? How do I stop an army of this magnitude? Not to worry, the witches have proclaimed that none of woman born shall harm me. I am off to battle those who oppose Scotland. My name is Macbeth and I am the King of Scotland.
