Saw a post praising this:
And see I never watched MAWS but I looked up this scene and I am NOT a fan of this "background character hijabi" shit getting praise in general and here I am like WHY IS HER STOMACH SHOWING???
The full outfit is a mini skirt with tight leggings which is ALSO NONSENSE!
I wear hijab and I did bad cosplay. I wore normal pants with a long medium skirt in the same colour for guy characters because it was important to me to not show my crotch and butt. Latest cosplay I did featured a really long tshirt for the same reason. I bought long gloves so the skin on my arms isnt showing. Ive seen so many hijabi cosplayers better than me who dont show their midriff or wear tights with a mini skirt.
Cant speak for everyone but I def would like if people who think slapping a hijab on a background character is progressive actually educated themselves about hijabis, the women wearing it, not the clothing.
Its not just about covering the hair ffs, its about dressing modestly, and this cosplay is not modest and it irritates me so much. To me personally, I say dont bother with hijabi background characters if you aint gonna care enough to do it right.
