Beyonce’s Grammy Performance 2017
2016-2017, Beyonce was pregnant with twins. This would be her 2nd pregnancy. People had doubts that she wasn't actually pregnant with the first child (Blue Ivy), it was rumored that she hired a Surrogate Mother so that she can protect her body image aka the ‘money maker’. Later in Beyonce’s career, she released pictures and videos proving she was pregnant but doubters were still not convinced. So during this pregnancy she tried to be in front of as many cameras so people can put those rumors to rest.
At the 2017 Grammy Awards, Beyonce performed almost in the 3rd trimester in her pregnancy. She started her performance with a hologram and a recorded poem. Her poem was about women, mothers and daughters. Saying things like “Do you remember being born? Are you thankful for the hip that craft....the deep velvet of your mother? and her mother? and her mother?”, “Your mother is a woman, and women like her cannot be contained”, and “I think of mothers as tree’s, growing to ad from one another.” Beyonce paid tribute to mothers across the globe. Beyonce embodied femininity by revealing her body and showing the world how beautiful a woman’s body is by being able to create another life.
#Repost @mizchartreuse with @repostapp ・・・ “My intention for the film and album was to create a body of work that will give a voice to our pain, our struggles, our darkness and our history. To confront issues that make us uncomfortable. It’s important to me to show images to my children that reflect their beauty so they can grow up in a world where they look in the mirror — first through their own families, as well as the news, the Super Bowl, the Olympics, the White House, and The Grammys, and see themselves...And have no doubt that they're beautiful, intelligent, and capable. This is something I want for every child of every race, and I feel it's vital that we learn from the past and recognize our tendencies to repeat our mistakes." Asé. Beyoncé read these words and smiled. She knew how these things work. Perhaps she had already reimagined winning for herself as a black woman. Perhaps she knew the win was in the fact that when all eyes were on her, she didn’t decide to make herself more palatable to white viewers. Instead, she let her imagination serve her goals, her child and her community. Commentary above from "What Beyoncé Won Was Bigger Than a Grammy" By Myles E Johnson for the New York Times I think we can all take cues from that. Honing our arts and becoming masters of our crafts and being leaders and winners in our own right by being authentically who we are without placating or watering down the message. It's bigger than us. Representation matters, and doing our best work while we are alive is so important for the next generation. #grammys2017 #beyonce #beyoncegrammys #speech #lemonade #formation #mothergoddess #mamahood #blackmadonna #oshun #orisha #yoruba #deity #ankh #fertilitygoddess #goldengoddess #sungoddess #blackgirlmagic #blackwomanmagic #femthefuture #divinefeminine #winning #blackwitches #femaleempowerment #shadowintegration #ageofeleven #decodingtheall
