@beyondthetemples asked: Though Dove was too timid to make a personal appearance to someone she barely knew, upon hearing it was his birthday, she had asked Lee to pass something along. An envelope? Yes indeed, a simple sky-blue envelope with Jonas’s name on it and a birthday card inside. The front of the card said “I heard it’s your birthday”– at least, it used to, but now it had blue pen striking out “heard” with “bird” written above it instead. On the inside: “Happy birthday!” in big metallic gold letters, and Dove’s small, neat handwriting on the other side wishes him the best. “I thought about getting you a gift,” it also said, “but I don’t know you very well, so I’m winging it.” Lee had said he liked puns, and though they weren’t her strong suit, Dove certainly hoped they were decent enough.

When Lee had told him one of her charges on the Young Justice League team had gotten him something for his birthday, he hadn’t believed her at first. He’d been called upon for help a handful of times, and seeing as he was rather fond of kids to begin with, of course he’d been more than willing to help. Dove was certainly his favorite-- quiet, a little bit reserved, but the two had bonded over their mutual love of birds. Jonas wouldn’t be opposed to taking her under his wing should Lee and Dick ever decide the team needed another mentor.
He’d taken the card from Lee and immediately opened it, a broad grin forming on his face at the crossed out word on the front. Already off to a great start-- and the inside is even better, filled with bird puns. It’s very sweet, though the young man certainly feels a little tug at his heart strings; he really should get to know Dove better.
“Hey, Lee--? Please tell her I loved it, ‘kay? And... And the next time you have a training session with the team...? I’d really like to come. Maybe they can teach me a thing or two.”
