the fact that this video is so negative about shazam's box office does make me sad. i don't think the monetary expectations need to be so high for the movie, considering its low budget. though it wouldn't look great if it somehow only walked away with, like, $400 million at the box office, it would still be enough to promise a sequel.
and i also disagree with the take on bop at the box office. shazam has the hurdle of being a solo superhero movie that introduces a new character and new mythology to a brand new audience. bop has pre-established and already popular lead character, and a fantastic release date! i mean, who won't want to see it for gal-entine's day?
so, i'm not losing hope for the future of the dceu at the box office. while aquaman making a billion dollars was amazing, these upcoming films don't have to do that amazingly well to still be considered success and warrant sequels. it might still help if those of us bigger fans of the movie go multiple times (i'll try to convince someone to go with me next weekend, hopefully!), but i still won't stress about it too much.
