Normal Kabbu does dumb reckless shit and has Vi go "don't fucking DO that you could have died like FIFTEEN TIMES in the past ten minutes and for what??? some random termite guy???" and ZBT-159 does reckless shit and has Vi go "okay. we think something fucked up in your priorities and planning again. let's, uhh, rejig that again, buddy" and then they go along with that because they are well aware that is an expression of affection despite being equally aware it will probably never actually work.

ZBT-159 fundamentally is a guy who spent The Horrors of the lab caring deeply about everything while working on the most shoddily duct taped together brain imaginable, had to reserve power to not violently shatter on the floor from caring too hard, and sort of held on to a lot of that stuff while being optimized to Work Better Without Dying Badly, and also happens to be in charge of making sure that all of the colony members it hangs out with do not self-destruct spectacularly.

This means that they have lost like 50% of its tendency for self-destruction because if they go down both Vi and Leif will probably violently tear themselves apart within the week, and maybe rip each other's throats out, because them killing each other violently in fits of wretched beast grief and emotion would be quite bad for them and also the colony, and Vi is better at programming solid priority systems than actually putting them into action itself.

The improved priority system has not, despite best efforts, optimized out the fundamental Kabbu tendency to fling oneself headfirst into danger to help people. It has made it moderately more survivable for the people around ZBT-159, because they will now think twice about flinging themself headfirst at The Beast and attempt to ensure the safety of teammates first, but they'll still fight The Beast, they'll just do like a handful of other things first and probably have a plan for doing it before actually flinging themself at a creature.

The labs still exist. The inhabitants... (we make a vague wiggly hand gesture) it's fine don't worry about it. Upper Snakemouth was the former development grounds for ground-breaking new assistive technology, with the old biotech used to make taxidermy constructs like The Watcher used in tandem with new Bee technology allowing for direct integration of new parts into a body plan.

Unfortunately, the lab was abandoned before it got too far after a structural failure flooded most of the place, and it was evacuated. Strangely, though, there seem to be rumors of new bugs around there lately? Ehh, we're sure it's nothing.

If ZB-856 was capable of it, it would absolutely have overhauled its entire body and half of its brain years ago. Unfortunately, it lives in a persistent resource desert, and its experimental hardware is very close to being the single most delicate, finicky, and difficult-to-modify set in the entire colony, because almost all of its brain is formed on crystal shards delicately pieced together into its neural core, and moving almost anything has a high probability of breaking the entire array. There is no one more disappointed about this than Vi.

They are a zombiant and they were asleep for like the entire hibernation period and Vi Hates Them To Death because they weren't awake for the period where it was learning to be Reasonably Competent At Things and they still kind of view it like it's punching above its weight level taking on all this responsibility and it can Smell It every time that it talks with them and it Hates It

We don't think that the residents of Snakemouth Den in The House continuity actually know what a transgender is. They didn't really come with any pre-installed gender, not a lot of them remember how the original model of gender works, and their format of gender isn't even really comprehensible to most of the Kingdoms and doesn't necessarily align to any sort of logic besides the insane amounts of spaghetti code they have compiled over a century. You could toss any gender at them and they would believe you because they don't have a frame of reference for it. This is no less unwieldy to them than having to speak entirely verbally to begin with.
