Pentagon ; First Dates

From the moment he asked you on a real date, he was nervous, the scenario playing in his head a million times a day. You two agree to meet at the park, and he makes his way there almost an hour early. It’s a chilly day, and Hui is unprepared for it, wearing a thin long sleeve shirt. As he sits on the swing set waiting for you, he starts to get cold, his nervous shakes mixing with shivers. When he sees you coming down the path, he jumps up to meet you. He greets you with an awkward “hi,” and a wide smile, sweet enough to make your heart jump. You were prepared for the chilly weather so you wore a hoodie, but you can see on Hui’s icy red cheeks that he’s cold. “You look cold, do you want to go inside somewhere?” You ask, but he is hesitant to answer. In all of his fantasies, he’s playing at the park with you, and then you eat dinner. But, this isn’t what he had planned at all, but he really was cold. You two walk together down the street. He has his hands awkwardly at his sides. He feels weird just walking quietly next to you, so he swallows his nerves, takes a deep breath, and says “My hands are really cold. Can I hold yours to make it warmer?” You can’t help but smile at him, and you nod, so you feel his cold fingers interlace with yours. His heart jumps, butterflies erupt and he’s surprised that the line actually worked. As you walk, you see a cafe and agree to walk in and get a hot drink. He pays for your drink, pulling out his money quicker than you so you wont pay. “It’s my treat,” he says, a little smile on his lips as he gives the money to the cashier. You sit together in a corner booth, sitting across from each other. He puts his hands on the table between you, and you can see how red his finger tips are from being outside. With your sleeves covering your hands, you reach out to him, opening the holding open your hands for his. He blushes a little bit at this. But, with almost no hesitation, he sticks his hands in your sleeves, holding your hands to gather warmth from you. He only hopes that you can’t feel how nervous he is because of his.

You two were friends before this, but only seeing each other sometimes, and only talking every once in a while. When he finally asked you on a date, you hadn’t even realized before that he liked you. But now, sitting with him in the cafe, you can see the fondness in his eyes towards you, and how easily he could smile just from talking to you. His nervous soon wears off and he laughs and makes jokes with you, things to say coming quickly, as though you had been close friends for years. There are moments where conversation died, and you stared out the window at the falling leaves, or you took a lingering sip from your drink. During this time, Hui keeps his eyes softly on you, drinking up how beautiful you look in this casual setting.
