HIHI!!! I AM DOING WELL RN, THANKS FOR ASKING!!!
Five and Two, let me think about that one. To be honest the characterizations of most of the algebraliens haven't stuck with me, so I don't remember exactly what Five is like, but Two is really pleasant so I think I can safely assume it would be a nice ship! I'll have to rewatch the subscriber specials to pick up on any deeper nuance there.
I do really really like Donut. He’s a funny and relatable character. He is sort of like Pin, where he takes initiative when it comes to his team. Unlike Pin, however, he often lets anger and sarcasm take over the way he leads his team. He very well could have continued hosting BFB but he just wasn’t feeling it.
He yearns for power and control because he’s bossy as hell, but when the going gets tough, he quits.
What a mood.
But! He is very loyal to his team. Despite his team not being the smartest, most capable, or talented team, they are strong in heart, and the bond he shares with each and every one of his team is genuine.
I love this dorky boyo. He’s so funny, I love it when he pops up onscreen.
Lightning is an incredibly hard character to grasp, as he’s mostly a background character at this point - he doesn’t have a big part within the show or the relationships he’s made, but this doesn’t mean he’s a bad character!
In the beginning of BFB, he’s labeled as one of the killers/tough guys of the show. He electrocutes Spongy, for example, and shows no remorse for doing so. He’s quick to act on other people’s directions, and doesn’t stand to question their motives when he is on his own. He’s a very good example of a follower (as opposed to a “leader”, like Pencil or Pin).
This is something I recently noticed, though. See his face when he sees Pencil and Match cheering? He electrocuted Spongy for them because he wanted their approval. He’s sort of like Liy, in a way, in which the way he acts and how he treats others depends on others’ approval or disapproval.
Once Bubble points him in the right direction by telling him to listen to his own moral compass. And what does that compass say?
That’s right - Lightning isn’t a murderer at heart. He’s really just trying to follow the crowd by doing as they say he should, but in reality, he doesn’t want to hurt people. (He does zap quite a few people during the first episode, but this part of him tones down as time goes on.) He mostly just wants to make friends with the folks in the show, particularly his own team. He befriends Bubble and Snowball, talking to them whenever given the chance.
He and Snowball have a closer friendship, but Bubble and he are good friends, too. Bubble also acts as his impulse control a couple of times here and there.
Right before he asks this, he tells to Bubble, “Loser was EVERYONE’S hero. Now that he’s gone, they don’t know what’s right or wrong anymore,”. This tells us that he is trying to electrocute people even further this episode because, without Loser, his moral compass is faulty. But it’s a good thing Bubble is always there to stop him.
One other thing about his personality that I would like to point out is that he… isn’t the brightest member of his team.
He always asks for clarification on the challenges, and, yeah, this could be just a thing played for laughs… it depends on how you look at it. To me, though, Lightning seems like the sort of ditzy, go-with-what-people-are-telling-me type, until Bubble comes around and does her best to help him see the better side of things, like doing what he thinks is right, instead of what others think.
I think him asking for clarification on the challenges pushes the idea even further that he needs other’s opinions and approval before doing or believing in something. But, hey, that’s just my silly opinion.
In conclusion…
I see Lightning as a character that could use more screentime to better flesh out his qualities. As I completed this analysis, I really had to dig around and think really hard about the scenes he was in and the interaction he has with his team members and the like. It would be much better for me and the other viewers to really get the full extent of his character if his character traits were amplified more.
That being said, Lightning is a fun and cute character who tends to follow what other people dictate for him to do, but, thanks to Bubble, he’s trying to look to his own moral compass and character to decide what’s best for him and others (he tends to forget from time to time, though). He’s a bit of an airhead at times, and often needs clarification or approval of others to do or understand something.
