Taueret M. Davis was a primary organizer for the Big Fat Flea for 2 years, and a super volunteer for many years before and after being an organizer. She also served on the NOLOSE board, an organization that the Flea benefits. Taueret was a brilliant, Black, working class, fat, femme who created so many desperately needed spaces - virtually and in person - at the intersection of all of those identities. Black, fat, and queer communities were very important to Taueret, so we wanted to honor her memory with this award. The Flea owes so much to her work, her creativity, her dedication, and the people she brought to The Flea. Taueret died in 2015 and - like everyone she touched - The Big Fat Flea won’t ever be the same without her.
For the second Flea in a row, to honor her memory and work, Big Fat Flea is offering 5 awards in her name, open to self-identified fat, Black, and queer people. Each award will consist of a free VIP ticket (worth $30) and a $75 voucher to use at The Flea for clothing purchases.
