Keepin The Lights Low for this jam this morning from Dutch producer all the way from NL ! This artist Dioni is really good . I love @jorampinxteren productions and/or mixes because there’s a blend of class no matter how poppy it is, and that comes from years of experience and sensibility. There’s smart & subtle musicality threaded into the productions just like all of the greats. You can take the same song and have a bedroom younger person(less than 10 years experience or none in an actual studio working) whack together some pretty exciting stuff but there’s often a lack of a satisfying after taste . Guys that really have experience and have enriched their lives with 100k hours of music have the advantage of knowing more . It’s a simple equation, the rest is well actual talent because those numbers aren’t a constant ...a well aged brew or food that satisfies , hits the spot ...as opposed to something that looks good or appears great but doesn’t go down all that satisfying. You could sit and listen to the guitar part alone or never notice it . That’s the beauty of making parts that are right for any song . Also , good note “the limited” version they had been sending the client versus the master ? Not much different . The way it’s supposed to be . Love this new on @spencerhoad producing another awesome @criddleclayton track ! #tutorialtuesday What I was trying to say but couldn’t (because I was actually running the mastering ) is that the verse was much lower and he was making it more exaggerated so the dynamic range would be greater ... if I were to smash it together then his verse and chorus would be noticeable ... now , this isn’t necessary for the engineer to do , but if your verse is “too low” for where the chorus or drop is , I will manually ride it up a little until the chorus and back it off (if there’s a very large level or volume change) because it should not feel like the vocal drops off on the verse too far in pop music ... if you want it to , it can but this way I can ride the converters “natural compression” and not have to use any more equipment ... the result is a magic sort of sound , it just is . When I take this configuration and use plug ins , it just kills the feel and the human feeling in a track ; I don’t know any other way to describe it but when it’s all analog and I’m in the car even on blue tooth audio messing everything up , it’s just no comparison to having something messed with plug-ins and also even if you use external gear you have to worry about how many conversions and degradation there ... but that’s another story ... #mastering #masteringminute #pgx #bgmastering #masteringstudio #hollywood #cali #music #producer #mixing #makingmusic #tutorialmusic (at Bernie Grundman Mastering Studios)
