Today I went to watch #blackpanther 🔥🔥 and I'm still shaking. Everything about the movie was amazing. Representation! Representation! Representation!!! K.dot with the soundtrack 😍 Incooperation of the beauty of different African tribes and I was there for it 😍 The women were the protectors of the kings😵👏✊ just as fierce as the men! @danaigurira @lupitanyongo @letitiawright as well as the other women were so fierce, so beautiful and so funny!! The men well 🍫... All that melanin 😍👑 the plot was great. A fantasy to talk about reality. It really made me think about the struggles within the black community. I'm just so happy to see a movie were black people aren't in chains, are heroes as well as villians, darkskinned women are given as much spotlight as our lighter queens, African accents hold intelligence and beauty as well as humour behind it. A movie where I can see myself in a character. I've never been so proud to be a Dark-skinned African Woman ✊ Thank God for this movie. My smile for the pizza is fake (I hate pizza) but do you know what is real? my love for Kendrick Lamar And Jermaine C. (J Cole). They are my favourite black musicians. Everything about them is amazing and my 13 years old me is so grateful I found them. By that age, I realised there was something very troubling about this world when it came to race, and K.dot and J Cole were revelations in a world that rapped about foolishness. The media is constantly hiding the truth from us but artists like J. And K. are persistant and true to themselves and their lyrics. I love that. They were made through the inspirations of Nas, Tupac Shakur, The Notorious B.I.G., Jay Z, and Eminem and are inspirations to other amazing rappers such as Logic who use their platform for greatness too. Celebrating Black history month in February because USA actually cares about the culture. To start it, I've chosen Phillis Wheatley who had the First African American Published Book of Poetry September 1, 1773. (Go read more) When caught writing with a chalk at 8, she wasn't punished but encouraged to learn. She was tutored in reading and writing. Wheatley also studied English literature, Latin, and the Bible, but what she did best was to write poetry. Her first poem was published in the Newport Mercury newspaper in 1767. I've chosen her because of my love for poetry. I entered a poetry recitation competition in Dec. And today, I found out that I was highly recommended despite not placing in the top 3 for #poetrybyheart comp. I'm proud of myself. I took a risk and had fun. Sort of like my girl, Phillis who seized her opportunity despite all the obstacles in her way. She's black excellence and so am I 😊 we all need her resilience and courage in our everyday lives.
