Superhero AU, Bill doesn’t start with powers. He’s just a run of the mill guy- very brainy, but run of the mill none-the-less. He has a service dog to help deal with sensory issues from being autistic, and executive dysfunction issues and other problems from ADHD and other disorders. He graduates high school several years early and goes on to college, and gets a pretty comfortable day job that lets him afford a nice three-bedroom in San Fran with time to spare to work on side-projects. These side projects include building costumes and fursuits, working on animated shorts, and various mechanical stuff; repairing vehicles, making neat little mechanized gizmos, etc. His business evolves into crafting and repairing gadgets and occasionally larger things for super super heroes; most suppliers are so busy keeping up with demand that they don’t repair broken toys, so that’s where Bill comes in. He ends up getting his powers when he cuts himself on a piece of metal while repairing some super hero’s bike or something after it got busted up thundering through this or that jungle. At first, he doesn’t think anything of it- he just gets the bleeding stopped, finishes repairing the bike, and keeps the wound as clean as he can. At first it looks like he has perhaps some kind of infection- the wound definitely doesn’t look right, but there’s no heat or any other signs of infection. It doesn’t really even hurt that much, except that it feels Not Right. He isn’t sure how to deal with it and he’s too busy to go to the hospital, and scared to go anyway. And then mushrooms start growing along his arm where he had cut himself. Not long after that, he develops the ability to control and manipulate mushrooms and certain types of fungus. In the beginning, it’s mostly the ones in his arm, or existing ones, but in time he’s able to grow them from nothing as well. He can use the mushrooms for various things, like holding things in place, passing him tools, creating platforms to get to places or to reach high ledges, restraining people, etc. He can even make little mushroom friends who can hobble about and fit into small spaces and offer some help with recon and stuff. Confused and upset, he starts out reluctant to do change his life style, but a friendship with a down and out hero- an amnesiac who doesn’t even remember their name and can’t really control their powers- helps him out. At first he just repairs the other hero’s tech, offers support from his house with various tech-y things on the job, but his friend eventually draws him out of his shell and he takes on responsibilities as an actual hero.
