GORILLA PARTY - Etsy Made Local at The City of Colours Festival
The word went out that a gorilla was returning to the streets of Birmingham. As the City of Colours is such a big visual feast upon the eyes, visitors were on the hunt for our pink gorilla to help join in the making fun.
Hanging out in the Zellig car park as graffiti artists decorated the walls of the Custard Factory and the sounds of hip-hop filled the air we set up our gazebo, positioned our gorilla, strung our Birmingham Originals sign to the railings and hung our Etsy bunting and pom-pom decorations.
Using a range of pink spectrum collage materials, collected from old magazines, our fabric and design scrap bags, and the scrap store a total of 194 crafters helped us in the pinkification of our brown taped homage to King Kong.
As well as assisting in decorating our big make using paint pens, visitors also decorated their own mini standee Gorillas to take home and snap around the city, all using Cass Art materials.
All visitors to the craft party took away pink Cass Art bags and vouchers, as well as crocheted love bombs with the team details on.
As well as those that got crafty with us, over the 5 hours of our craft party the Birmingham Originals team chatted to nearly 2,000 people about Etsy, as they snapped pictures of our Gorilla and observed their children and friends getting crafty. Sharing the cultural heritage of this piece of art, meeting Etsy customers and shouting the word about shopping independent was a fab and tiring day
Now, all that’s left to do is finish the pinkification that the people of Birmingham and visitors to the City of Colours festival started. We’ll be adding ceramic teeth, leather cheeks and plastic armour. The final pinkification has already started and once finished you’ll be able to find our Pink Gorilla on display in the window of Cass Art this summer.
