Originally named for the yellow tint of the soil by the Dutch Settlers, the name was abandoned in the 1850s because of the Yellow Fever outbreaks killing New Yorkers. The area was renamed to #BayRidge to invoke a more pleasant image. Bonus points to those who can point out the third 'Hook' on the map! . . . . .
