Chapter 1, Ep 8: Kathy POV
Kathy belongs to @ieatrawsprinkles
It wasn’t fun being here. But they had to get away from home at least. She could fend for herself and survive. She could swing a bat, but that’s it. They didn’t even have anything on them. After everything, she just wanted to sleep.
After hours, they found a strange castle. In front of it was a woman standing there. So Kathy went with the natural response in that situation.
They grabbed a large stick and whacked the other on the head.
Okay, maybe that wasn’t a great idea. Maybe she shouldn’t have attacked some random person. They looked like they could take her in a fight!
While looking at the unconscious body in front of them, rustling is heard behind Kathy, so she hides nearby in some bushes. A man comes out of the other bushes, looking in slight horror at the body. He shakes her, but when not regaining consciousness, drags her by the shoulders through the forest.
Kathy decides to run away from the scene to not get spotted by that man. She slightly screwed up there, but it’s fine! Not like she killed her. Hopefully. Probably should’ve checked for a pulse but whatever, it’s fine.
As they ran, they saw some kids pass by. She didn’t bother stopping though, as they looked wary of Kathy. Soon enough, her luck failed and they fell to the ground from a stray tree root.
When they finally get back up, one of the teens that she saw earlier is right above her, peering down. She simply blinked when seeing the other getting up, moving back a bit as the other teen ran over to the spot. “Bianca, you can’t just-“ The other paused when seeing the former waitress on the ground. They wanted to cry a bit, but… she couldn’t.
“Hey! Who are you?” The blonde called out to the fallen over woman.
“Why do you wanna know?” They called out to the teens. They glared slightly as the two got a tad closer.
“I’m just curious! No harm in asking.” They stepped slightly closer to the other teen, glancing at them haphazardly. “I’m Bianca, and this is Evelyn!” The dark haired teen waved at the waitress after a few seconds.
“…I’m Kathy.” She finally stood up, looking at the younger two. Their clothes were falling apart at the hems, likely having come from some slums. “I’m just.. I’m looking for a place to stay.”
The taller teen, Evelyn, smiled softly. “Well, we’ve been told that there’s a town somewhere near here. Want to see if we can get there together?” They still appeared wary, but less so now. Kathy nodded, and they started to walk.
Bianca talked about how she and Evelyn were trying to find a place to set up some advertising. They were told by their boss that this place called Oakhurst should do well. Their conversation is suddenly cut short when Evelyn looks to her side and starts walking towards something. “What is it?” Bianca calls out.
“Some sort of tomb, it seeeeeeeeeeems-!” Her voice gets quieter, and the two watch as she falls down into the tomb like structure. Kathy runs up there, looking down into the chasm. “I’m fine!” Evelyn assures her for, the bottom having seemingly been filled with water to break the fall. Kathy follows suite, a tad more carefully as Bianca jumps in haphazardly.
Evelyn was already examining some of the nooks around, when Kathy noticed a chest at the end off the hall. They opened it, finding a small book in it. It was titled “Become Undead.” The first page says “eat me.” That was a bit jarring for Kathy, as you shouldn’t eat books. Then again, it did look slightly tasty- wait a minute!
“You sure you alright, Evee?” Bianca questioned Evelyn.
“I’m alright. The water saved me from breaking my legs.”
“Don’t joke about that, you jerk.” Bianca flicked the other’s forehead, walking over to Kathy. “What are you holding?”
They shrug. “A book I found in this chest. It’s called ‘Become Undead.’” Evelyn looks over at Kathy finally.
“Weird book title.” She takes the book from the orders hands, flipping through it quickly. “If you eat this book, you can stand still for a minute and become dead to the world around you.”
“Can I see it?” Bianca tries to take the book, in which Evelyn pushes them back a bit. “Hey…”
“We don’t even know how that would work. Also, YOU CAN’T JUST EAT BOOKS BEE!” Evelyn yelled the last part, annoyed by the thought itself.
Bianca just pouted off to the side. “But what if it’s a really tasty book?” Evelyn simply stared for a moment, before the blonde relented. “Fine, fine. I won’t eat any books. Yet.” They grumbled something beneath their breath, and Kathy started to go up the spirally stairs to the surface.
And then immediately duck back down because that man from earlier was looking around nearby. Kathy still had no idea if they had been spotted the first time round. They didn’t want to risk it. So she watched the man.
He seemed to fiddle with his earring a lot, it looking slightly glowy at some times but Kathy racked it up to lighting. “What are you doing?” Evelyn questioned suddenly, and the older only realized then how odd the situation seems from an outside perspective.
“I’m just… observing.” They tested out. It wasn’t a lie, just not the full story. Evelyn nodded at the other.
Bianca came up, interlocked arms with Evelyn. “We still need to go find Oakhurst. You wanna continue with us?” The shorter asked. Kathy looked at where the man had been, finding that he must’ve left while they talked. She nodded to the other two, the teens smiling at that.
The rest of the walk went smoothly. Kathy didn’t speak much, rather listening to the story of a book that Evelyn and Bianca had read together. It was about solving a murder that occurred ten years prior. It was interesting enough.
When the trio reached the town, they were greeted by barren houses, ash left over from everything, and a handful of people inside. Bianca’s smile fell. “What happened to the town?” Evelyn shrugged to that, walking towards one of the entrances that no one was at.
“I’m not sure you can advertise all that well here, with the lack of people.” Evelyn quizzically looked at her, before springing up a bit.
“Yeah, I guess not. I think me and Bee will stay a bit longer, at least for a week. We need a break anyways.” Bianca nodded sagely, as Kathy chuckled.
“That makes sense. Well, I’ve oughta check for a place to rest a bit. See you soon.” Kathy stood up, walking over to the burned down walls of a house. The inside area had just the right amount of room to be able to sleep a while.
And that’s what they did. Maybe it would finally be easier here, she thought, or maybe it will be so much worse. She drifted off to sleep after that.
Hello, I am alive. I truly have so much trouble when it comes to making stories and actually writing them, don’t I? I didn’t mean to go into hiatus, and definitely not for that long, but I started to fall out of love with this world a bit. I’m disappointed in myself for not keeping up with it, but I do hope you enjoy this episode.
Also, next ep may be a tad delayed due to Artfight. I think I should be fine, but don’t be to surprised if it’s late.
