Chapter 1, Episode 3: Sage POV
Sage by @twistinghalo
Authors note at the end!
Sage hated everyone and everything. Those humans force cured her, and now she was stuck in this forest she forced herself to call home.
The sun didn’t hurt, and she could eat more than meat and blood, but she could easily be killed now. She hated it here. She wanted to leave this forest, she wanted to find her sire, she needed to run.
And so she did. She ran as fast as she could. She could’ve been faster If she was a bat. When she finally slowed down, there was a pair of two teens chatting.
“I think we went the wrong way, Evee.” The shorter of them spoke. They wore a brown shirt and pants, some rips in the pants. The other wore the same type of clothes, just no rips.
“How would you know? You haven’t been here before.” The other retorted. Despite this, she was smiling at the other.
“What…?” Sage simply spoke. The two people’s heads turned. They looked surprised.
“Ah! Stranger danger!” The shorter of the shouted. She hid behind the other.
“I’m not planning to hurt you.” Yet. Sage spoke calmly. These kids haven’t hurt her yet, so she had no reason to attack them. It would be a 2v1 anyways, and Sage isn’t used to not having her vampiric powers just yet.
The taller one tensed up. She couldn’t have been older than 18. “We can’t know that for sure. Who are you?”
Sage played quietly with her hands. “My name is Sage. You two are?” The other two appeared tense. Maybe Sage had scared them slightly.
The shorter one spoke up. “I’m Bianca! And this is Evelyn.” Evelyn tried to stop Bianca from saying this, but seemed to have failed.
“Bianca, you can’t just-! Ugh. What are you doing here?” Evelyn seemed tired, her voice drooping.
“I’m just looking for a place to stay before going back to an old friend of mine.” It wasn’t a lie, just not the full truth.
“Well, we need to find this Oakhurst place, else we won’t get paid.” Bianca said this in a playful voice, Evelyn smiling at the other. They looked like sisters despite their drastic appearance differences.
Oakhurst? Safe hadn’t heard of that place before. It could work as a place to get resources and things. “How many people live there?” The population could be a problem, as they may question why she was there. She didn’t need to deal with humans for a long while after that.
“Don’t know. Boss didn’t tell us anything about that, just to find business spots.” Hm. This ‘boss’ person didn’t seem to know anything about the place either of their lackeys didn’t.
“Well, we have to walk there to find it Bee!” Evelyn spoke as if it was all a fun game. Sage wished she could think that like before.
“Well, let’s start looking!” Bianca grabbed Evelyn’s hand and started to run off, the other running with her. Sage smiled as they ran off, the smile immediately dropping when the two were out of sight. What strange kids.
Sage continued to walk, walking for what felt like forever. She was hungry, she was tired, all of these uncomfortable feelings. She hated it so much.
She spotted a town after what felt like forever. The walls appeared burnt down, yet a pair of people were already there. So she walked over. Maybe they had some sort of food.
The two spotted her, seemingly relaxed. They didn’t apear worried about the other at all. At least they weren’t suspicious of her or anything.
“Hey, do any of you have food?” Sage was starving. The raw meat wasn’t good for the human body apparently, and she had lacked the time to cook food while walking. But even so, she knew how desperate she sounded
The first person, sporting a braid, noticed Sage and walked over. “I have some bread, will that work?” What did bread taste like again? She had forgotten at this point, only able to eat meat for so long.
“That would be fine, thank you.” She took the bread offered by the other after a second. She took a small bite.
It was absolutely disgusting. She hated not being able to eat the raw meat, she hated the stale bread, she needed to find her sire, she needed out, out, out.
“Are you okay?” She was snapped out of their small trance, seeing a slightly concerned face. It was the other person sitting there.
“I-I’m fine! Just got a little distracted is all.” She walked into the town before anyone could say anything else.
The town seemed to have been long abandoned, the houses all burnt or broken down. No one had likely lived here in a few decades, cobwebs littering what was left of the town. The strangest part was the center area, which Sage spotted a beacon in. It made Sage feel weird.
“That’s strange…” She walked towards the beacon, confused by it. It seemed warm. So, she stayed there for a while, soon enough falling asleep.
She woke up in the middle of the night. Suppose she didn’t have a good sleep schedule just yet, and she heard some rustling.
She decided to go check it out, and got a little surprised at seeing a person with silvery like blonde hair. They stood there, seeming to be looking at a single gravestone. Sage couldn’t read the name on it from this distance. She wondered why this fellow was so interested by this particular grave.
She supposed she jinxed herself, as the grave person noticed them, walking over. “What are you doing up so late?” She asked in a steady voice.
“I woke up just now. I could ask you why you’re looking at the grave.” Sage retorted, still groggy. It was a strange phenomena, feeling so tired. She hated it.
They pause, seeming to choose their words carefully. “I couldn’t sleep well, so I decided to wander a bit. Maybe it would drain the rest of my energy.” She spoke calmly. “I suppose I should go back to my little area. I’ve had enough walking for the night.” They say, looking down at the other, who was still sat on the ground.
“…Okay. You go do that, I’ll just go back to sleep.” She didn’t fully trust that explanation, but it was reasonable enough for a human.
So, she went back to sleep.
Tomorrow, she could get out of this town she was sure. Tomorrow, she would start traveling to her sire.
Solar Note!: I hope you guys enjoyed this chapter! This shouldn’t have taken this long, but I am still proud of it. Due to Sage’s backstory in this AU, I felt it made more sense to have less lengthy character interactions. I hope you have a wonderful timezone, and enjoyed this episode!
