Sola Scriptura and Catholic Questions for Protestants
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17 So why is Sola Scriptura so important? the scriptures are God's written word and that must be taken into account when it comes to church doctrine. When a famous and influential preacher tell his congregation that Hell isn't real and that God will saved everyone regardless of their confession of faith, it must be verified by the holy scriptures and when it's discovered that what the preacher is teaching isn't consistent with the Bible that's when you must make the decision to either follow what the scriptures say or what your church leadership says. In Acts 17:11 St. Paul described the Bereans jews as more noble-minded than the Thessalonians believers because they would examine the scriptures with St. Paul's teachings in order to determine whether Paul's teachings were true. If we removed the Bible as our final authority then any man-made or woman-made doctrine can enter into the church. Jesus used the phrase "It is written" three times when appealing to Scripture as the final authority in His dispute with Satan (Matt. 4:4, 7, 10). Of course, Jesus (Matt. 5:22, 28, 31; 28:18) and the apostles (1 Cor. 5:3; 7:12) sometimes referred to their own God-given authority. #solascriptura #bible #biblealone
Tota scriptura: We cannot say, “The Bible is God’s Word—” and then add, “—but this part is ‘truer’ than the rest.” Holding to tota Scriptura, we cannot downplay or detract from any part of the Bible. From Genesis to Revelation, from the creation to the end of the world, God has given us His Word revealing His plan of salvation. Proverbs 30:5 says, “Every word of God is flawless,” not “some of the words” or “a great majority of the words.” Every word. That’s tota Scriptura. #totascriptura #bible #bibleverse #biblealone #proverbs305 #reformedtheology
"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work." 2 Timothy 3:16-17 Here's the thing, if sola scriptura (scripture only) isn't the final authority than what is? If the Bible is in second place in authority than what's more authoritative than the God-breathed scripture? if there's a Church teaching that contradicts the holy scripture; are you going to stand with the church or the holy scriptures? And finally can you trust religious teaching that are not found in the Bible nor supports it? the New Testament is also called “Scripture” (2 Pet. 3:15-16; 1 Tim. 5:18; cf. Luke 10:7); second, it is inconsistent to argue that God-breathed writings in the Old Testament are sufficient, but the inspired writings of the New Testament are not. Further, Jesus and the apostles constantly appealed to the Bible as the final court of appeal. This they often did by the introductory phrase, “It is written,” which is repeated some 90 times in the New Testament. Jesus used this phrase three times when appealing to Scripture as the final authority in His dispute with Satan (Matt. 4:4, 7, 10). Of course, Jesus (Matt. 5:22, 28, 31; 28:18) and the apostles (1 Cor. 5:3; 7:12) sometimes referred to their own God-given authority however all teaching from either apostle, pastor or teacher must be verified with the holy scriptures "Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true." -acts 17:11. #solafide #solagratia #solascriptura #soluschristus #messianicjudaism #church #heresy #bibleverse #biblealone
