Bichunmoo (2000)
Do you have any saeguk suggestions. Something like The King Loves, Faith and Moon Lover?? This year dramas really lack in saeguk. I NEED SAEGUK MEN DEAR DRAMA LORD!
If you have not yet seen The Princess’ Man, eun don’t walk as it will meet all your requirements.
Also Queen Love and War which came out at the end of last year and was way overlooked.
Speaking of underrated so you are less likely to have seen them - Return of Iljimae and Kingdom of the Winds, which are criminally underrated; Damo which was a big hit but is “old” so people don’t talk about it much any more; Legend, which is my n1 sageuk of all time (starts slow but then goes into hyperdrive) and was a huge hit but is also old so people haven’t seen it as much now; Bichunmu the drama version (get the longer Chinese one; angsty romance and revenge); Shine or Go Crazy - Jang Hyuk does Wang So and he’s always amazing in a sageuk; and Ballad of Seodong (epic romance in pre-Joseon times.)
Legend, Bichunmu, Shine or Go Crazy, Kngdom of the Winds and Ballad have the advantage of being set in pre-Joseon era.
Chatting with @letsflytoasiarenata reminded me how much I adore Bichunmoo, the drama version of the 2000 movie.
It was made in 2005 and stars the hot hot young Joo Jin Mo as a naive and sweet young man who returns as a bitter hardened warrior. It’s a love story at its heart but also the closest I’ve seen a sageuk try to do wuxia.
I feel like a rewatch (fwiw, watch the Chinese version - the Korean one is way cut down.)
