Dutch designer Herman Vanhulsteijn was approached by prestigious auction house Sotheby’s to create an exclusive series of nine extraordinary bicycles, all covered in a dazzling coat of Japanese urushi lacquer and gold leaf. Each component of the bicycle is painstakingly handcrafted, following a distinguishing curved shape that Vanhulsteijn first designed for himself.

Now that we’ve reached peak oil, it’s only matter of time before the world exhausts its fossil fuel supply and civilization as we know it collapses in upon itself.
