The combo of Ray’s clashing blue tie with his brown suit when he’s older and his chaotic mishmash of clothing colors when he’s younger (a friend of mine pointed out that at eighteen he appears to have worn bowling shoes to a crime scene) gives me the sense that he had and continues to have an endearingly goofy sense of fashion.

Like, I have this image of there being some kind of cross-firm defense attorney meet-and-greet party in 2000 or 2001 (which is actually where Raymond meets Diego - I like to think they’ve been friends since they were teen law interns), and Gregory is sharply dressed as always with his very nice tailored suit and carefully combed hair, and Ray pulls up wearing like, suspenders and a plaid bow tie. No one’s quite sure how he pulls that look off (and Diego DEFINITELY teases him about it), but he does.

And despite him losing many things as he grew older and more jaded from his past wounds - his excitability, his outward enthusiasm, his emotional openness - he never quite lost that quirky sense of fashion. One bit of himself that was constant, in this world that so quickly came crashing down for him, I think.
