I love the. Idk what to call it. Threshold of rebloggability between big fandoms you like and vanishingly small ones. Like you see a post, or especially some art, for a Big Fandom, and if you think it's pretty good, maybe you reblog! But the standard can be kind of high. I'm not reblogging any old Tolkien thing, for example. But for Tiny Fandom? Tiny Fandom that nobody knows? Fear not, humble fanartist, I WILL reblog your poorly scanned pencil drawing. The people must See your rendition of Blorbo and Bingus from Tiny Fandom. They must Know.

I think it's good for you to occasionally get really into an extremely mediocre piece of media that has no fandom. it's humbling. in a big, popular fandom you never have to think for yourself or make your own posts if you don't want to. you can be picky about fanfic. a tiny-to-nonexistent fandom for a piece of media that isn't even that good forces you to make stuff if you want it, since you can't go find it easily, think critically about the material, and your standards for fanfic go wayyyy down

probably the best thing about being in a huge fandom is that no matter what it is you want, it’s already there. want space-monkey tony stark? look no further than pinterest. are you interested in levi/that-one-chill-cat? then you’re a weirdo but, hey! it exists! it may not be “cool” to be in a big fandom, but anything you could think of is there (it’s like supernatural gifs) and that is a godsend.
