so ive been watching svu since i was in middle school. ive been through ada after ada, stuck around when stabler left, then as munch and cragen left too but at this point. at 19 seasons in, i really think svu writers dont know what this show is for anymore. it was to start conversation through entertainment and narrative and it hasnt done that for a long time really. character development and continuity are very unfamiliar concepts to s18 and s19, so its not a good show to watch. and it hasnt made actual poignant commentary in a long long time either. theres a ton going on in todays political climate, yet svu, a supposedly groundbreaking show, isnt sayin shit. rafael barba really drew me in as a poc played by a qpoc that was specifically coded as queer early on in his development, but now svu really has continued to disappoint me in recent seasons. even though it was very much raul’s choice to leave, im giving up on svu now that barba is gone. i cant believe that some people like oscar isaac are being accused of queer bating in the star wars fandom when repeatedly week after week svu writers acknowledge our desires for queer represenation and then instead do the exact opposite. ill stick around for the friends ive made through discord and the characters as i remember them, but i wont be watching any more until the writers pull their heads out of their asses.
