the problems I've been having with newpipe the free youtube client: EDIT: THESE PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN FIXED
if I'm in the middle of a video and close the app or just leave it paused for awhile it starts back at the beginning sometimes, not every time, but it's inconvenient when you're watching an 8 hour jerma stream and aren't sure exactly where you were. even though I have "restore last playback position" turned on.
some other options in settings don't seem to work correctly, for example "minimize to popup player on app switch" doesn't work half the time, and sometimes doing this starts the video over.
what I'm LOVING about newpipe that trivializes those issues:
NO ADS!!! (this is the biggest one. i never have to see a disturbing or scary or even just tedious ad on youtube ever again)
there's an option to adjust the brightness of the video in the player by just dragging your finger up the right side. rocks
it doesn't show bullshit videos that don't have anything to do with your search, and the similar videos under the video are actually similar ones. god. I've seriously had it up to here with youtube "recommending" me videos with disturbing thumbnails that I can't even say "not interested" on, Never Again, FUCK YOU
you can play audio in the background and turn off your screen. you can download videos.
you obviously can't interact with the comment section besides reading them, but you can make playlists and subscribe to channels, and I'm seeing there's some customization available there i haven't tried yet. only download the app from their website. godspeed
